Gut-Loving Superfood Bircher

If you’re anything like me, in the morning, you just want something easy peasy to munch on. 

I’m more of a brunch gal myself, but often I don’t have time for a full-blown sourdough with poached eggs and avocado – especially when I’m racing around heading to yoga, in meetings or just livin’ my life, yo.

What I love about this Bircher recipe is that you can bulk make the dry ingredients and store them in a jar and then when you fancy, just add a few tablespoons to a small jar, top with mylk and then grab and go in the morning by adding some coconut yoghurt and fruit (I use raspberries, but you could use grated apple, pear, whatever you like!)

It’s a super easy way to fuel your day and tastes bloody delicious to boot! Whenever I eat this Bircher, I notice that it keeps me completely satisfied well until lunch time. Full of fibre, superfoods and nutrients, this recipe is a quick way to give your guts some love and fuel your bod with plenty of the good stuff!

My gut LOVES this blend – but keep in mind – I tolerate oats fine. If you’re coeliac or avoiding gluten, I would recommend using a gluten free flake like millet, rice, quinoa or just leaving the oats out completely.

The BEST bit about this Bircher is that you really can just use whatever you have in the pantry. My blend tends to be what I always have on hand, but get creative! Try a few different mixes. I can guarantee they’ll be delicious.


1 cup oats, gluten-free oats or gluten-free flakes

1/2 cup chia seeds

1/2 cup pumpkin seeds (amazing for your skin!)

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1/2 hemp seeds

1/2 cup black and/or white sesame seeds

1/2 cup shredded coconut

1/4 cup coconut sugar

1/8 cup cinnamon

1/2 cup cacao nibs

1/4 cup flaxseeds

Optional: 1/4 cup crushed almonds, macadamias or other nuts

Coconut yoghurt (optional: chocolate coconut yoghurt)

Almond, rice, oat or coconut mylk

Raspberries (optional: shredded apple, pear, blueberries or any in season fruits)



1. Get all your ingredients together (and admire their superfood greatness!)

2. In a big jar, stir all of the dry ingredients together. I pour them all in the jar, pop the lid on and then just shake, shake, shake to mix up.

3. The night before, get yourself a small jar (I always keep glass jars from pesto, tomato paste, coconut butter etc.) Add 3-4 heaped tablespoons of your Bircher blend to the jar and top with your favorite non-dairy mylk just covering the Bircher. Give the jar a shake with the lid on the mix the dry ingredients with the mylk. Pop in the fridge and leave overnight.

4. In the morning, grab your jar and you'll see the mixture is now wet and thick. Top with a tablespoon or two of your favorite coconut yoghurt (I use this chocolate one!) Top with berries or your favorite in-season fruit. 

Enjoy! Or pop the lid on the jar, grab a spoon and take it to go!
